How to tell which Profiled Fibre Cement Ridge is right for you
Transcript
Confused by fibre cement ridges? Find the variety of options overwhelming? With so many options available to choose form, it can be difficult to know which one is right for your project. One major consideration is whether your work is new-build or refurbishment.
If it’s refurbishment, you’ll have to match the ridge to the profile of the existing sheets.
There are two different profiles. Profile 6 is 6 inches between the corrugations and it’s a metre wide. Profile 3 is 3 inches between the corrugations and 650mm wide.
You’ll also need to know if your ridge is adjustable or cranked. If you’re working with Profile 3, your only option is adjustable.
This is a cranked crown ridge which curved over the roof – available in three sizes, 750mm, 900mm or 1800mm in girth. Choose the appropriate size depending on the location of your purlins. If it’s a new build, opt for 750 or 900mm. The 1800mm is more fragile, so should only be used for patch repairs of an existing roof.
The pitch of your roof will also determine the angle of the cranked crown ridge you need. The curves are set from 10 degrees to 22.5 degrees in 2.5 degrees increments; so be sure to measure the pitch of your roof accurately.
The adjustable ridges come as either plain wing or close fitting. These can be used on a range of roof pitches because of their two-piece construction. The plain wing will sit on top of any profile, whereas the close fitting will following the corrugations, allowing for an airtight finish.
If your building contains livestock, you’ll need vented ridge systems to allow damp, warm air to escape. These are made to your exact specifications.
