How to establish the dimensions of a profiled sheet

Transcript

There’s almost 1000 different profiled sheets on the market, some will only differ by a matter of millimetres - but if you don’t get the right one, it won’t fit.

Southern Sheeting’s mobile app is an industry first. Enter all your key dimensions and the app will tell you which profile of sheet you need. Or you can fill out a profile identification form if you’d prefer to do things the old-fashioned way.

First off, it’s important to work out whether the sheet is forward or reverse profile. This is forward profile.

It has the larger trough area which you screw into, which sits on the purling of the roof. If it was reverse profile, the colour would be on the other side which makes the trough stick out toward you, so you can apply the fixings through the crown. Reverse profile sheets are usually used on walls.

To identify the profile of a sheet, you need to take certain key dimensions. First, take the pitch measurement, which is centre to centre of the crowns. This is 200mm.

Next, we need the depth of the profile measuring vertically down. This is 32mm.

Then it’s the crown, 20mm.

The trough is next, this measures 128mm.

And finally, we measure the cover width of the panel, this is 1000mm.

We also need to know which material you require: steel, glass-fibre, PVC, insulated or fibre cement. Once we have all of this information, either on the app or the form, we will be able to advise you on the profile you need.
